The story of the Rouse's Roost began in the 1890's when this interesting little three-room house was built. It was built in the "shot gun" style. Usually, these houses were put on a narrow lot with the rooms built one behind the other so that a person could stand at the back door, aim a shotgun straight through and the shell would go out the front door to shoot a varmint or a revenuer in the front yard without shooting a hole in the wall.
The building style of Rouse's Roost is the same in that the three rooms are built one behind the other on a narrow lot but different because the front door is on the side. Whoever heard of the front door being on the side? Maybe, that pioneer who shot the revenuer in the front yard. Perhaps his shot gun had a bend in it so he could shoot out the side front door.
Regardless of whether there is a front door or a side front door, you are going to enjoy spending time in this warm and cozy setting. The rooms are furnished with vintage and antique furniture and interesting accessories to make your stay enjoyable.
